Outbreak

=^= Winters to Elodin =^= Ravi flicked her comm badge again, having stopped herself just in time from trying the CO earlier.
~The whole epicentre of life has to follow the CoC..... remember that, you idiot! ~ she berated herself.
~Elodin has the pips to tell you that. He carries the rank therefore the burden of decisions.~
Elodin looked up from the computer console, which was displaying the latest numbers coming in from the Healers Guild. To say they were distressing would have been an understatement.
"This is Elodin," came the Chief Medical Officer 's reply.
=^= Ravi here Boss =^= she responded, sounding almost out of breath, so urgently and rapidly she was speaking in her anxiety to tell him of her fears. =^= Are you alone, Sir? I wish to make an urgent report which is currently highly confidential until you make a decision on what it might mean? =^=
Elodin tapped a control and the doors to his office, which were usually open, hissed shut. "Go ahead, Ravi."
"Sir, I've done some tests on the older machinery in the lab down here. They show all kinds of what our medicine would call dead viruses but they're only dead to us because we've vaccinated them out. I think there must be some way in which some of us must be symptom free Carriers and brought them here for the unprepared, unvaccinated locals to catch and their immune systems, seeing it all for the first time, just aren't coping. Lisald is here and he's going to bring some samples back to be re-tested on the Cygnus with this in mind and if he finds the same results we're going to have to realise that this is our fault!" She explained quickly, as she was so worried about this and anxious to get the details to her CMO as fast as she could, hoping no-one from the planet would disturb her before she could finish or worse, overhear her if arriving un-noticed, or unseen.
She was still looking from side to side and surveying all around herself like a small bird trying to feed on the ground with all kinds of possible dangers all around it.
Elodin blinked and took a breath. "Wait a minute, Ravi, slow down," he instructed. "Talk me through your findings."
"Yes Sir, You see, these labs on the Planet are basic, the Antocians understand centripetal and centrifugal forces and they can apply electromagnetic force in their lab instruments but what they come up with isn't anything like the "magic" that they call our science. Using this equipment I've been finding the baselines of viruses that no longer exist in the forms that they're showing here. These viruses are basic colds and influenza types which our equipment didn't look for at first because we consider them wiped out.
I've asked Lisald to try the tests I've done in the Ship's Labs to see if these down here are over-simplifying things and giving me over generalised readings but if what I'm seeing here is actually accurate, these sick Antocians are dying from something we must have carried here..... well that's what I'm thinking...... does it sound possible Sir?" she explained, asking for Elodin's superior experience and knowledge to see if her whole theory could stand up or if it was too badly measured on too basic machinery to really be a true result?
~Machinery...........~ Her mind had been so befuddled with her feelings for Vaat and wondering what he would think and how the people down here might find out there was something wrong - she had to face it - she was scared..... what if they worked it out too and decided to mob the nearest "alien" in their distress and anger.... who could blame them?~
=^= The machinery, Sir....... it's just come to me........could there be a fault in the transporter filters? Vaat said what i was thinking couldn't be possible because the transporter filters would have neutralised whatever was being sent down but... could we have a fault? Perhaps it's not the Lab equipment that's causing the readings to skew.... what about the Transporters and their filters? =^= Ravi felt like a light bulb had suddenly come on above her head and where there had been darkness and confusion, she was getting more hopeful.
=^= I have to go Sir, I'll try to catch Vaat before he transports up and see if he can take a look at the transporters from here, but I'm more likely to catch him once he gets back aboard and that's a better place for him to be looking anyway. =^= Ravi tapped her comm badge to close the call and began to try to contact Lisald again.
She was getting a lot of strange and quizzical looks from the Antocians but she was past the fear of letting them know something was wrong now, it must surely have been more obvious than the nose on the First Minister's face.
Trying to slow her breathing, Ravi made a second attempt to re-connect with Lisald.
